Michael Blaber, Ph.D.

Professor of Biomedical Sciences
College of Medicine, Florida State University

Dr. Blaber has studied the structural biology and biophysical properties of FGF-1 over the past 14 years. His research group was the first to report the X-ray crystal structure of human FGF-1 and the first to report accurate details of the stability and folding properties of FGF-1. In addition to the wild-type protein, Dr. Blaber's group has also created and studied dozens of mutant forms, including several with enhanced functional properties. His research with FGF-1 has been featured on the covers of both Proteins and Protein Science journals.

He has served on the editorial boards of Molecular and Cellular Proteomics and Protein Science and has served on peer-review committees for the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. He has published over 165 peer-reviewed publications and research abstracts, and his research program is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health and American Heart Association.

Dr. Blaber received a B.A. in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology from UCSB, a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from UCI, followed by an N.I.H.-supported postdoctoral fellowship at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Oregon. He is currently a tenured full professor in the College of Medicine at Florida State University.
